SONG CONTEST - THE ALMOST EUROVISION EXPERIENCE

A glitzy comedic and loving tribute to the Eurovision Song Contest. It’s as close to the real thing as you can get, with eleven countries competing, a multitude of anxious contestants, a gushing hostess and all the quirkiness that both delights us and makes us cringe in a single breath.

It’s just like being at the finals of Eurovision. Song Contest is a cross between a musical comedy, a concert and a sporting event. It’s a very funny night out. What could be better? It includes an authentic voting system so that every night it is the audience who determine the result, this means every night could be a different result.

Music
All original songs – each one very “Eurovisiony” (yes that is a word.) This show has wind-blown hair power ballads, pretty glitter boy pop, soulful groove and all manner of patriotic foolishness. It’s all here. The songs are top shelf and sound just like something you have heard before on Eurovision, only different and a bit wrong.

Competing Countries
Hungary, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Greece, Italy, Iceland, United Kingdom, Ireland, Ukraine and Norway.

Auditions
This show consists of a Hostess (Bettina) and her two helpers (Katarina and Vladimir) and a Company from which soloists and actors are chosen. There are also Full Company numbers. Those auditioning need to be 16yrs or older.
​
The soloists (solos, duets, etc) will be performing the entries from the various Countries. Those chosen to be soloists for a particular Country or Countries will also be Company members in some other Countries.
The acting roles which are part of the live video links to the participating Countries, will also be selected from Company members.
The emcee (Bettina - female) and her side-kicks (Katarina – female and Vladimir – male) need strong Russian accents. All 3 need to be good with Improv.
Bettina is a Mega-Star, an over the top strong Ukrainian matriarch style hostess, she also needs to be a good singer.
Katarina is sweet, awkward and totally in awe of Bettina.
Vladimir also worships Bettina.
The Company also includes dancers.
All singers need to bring a backing track for their song. It can be CD, USB, or phone.
To audition for Bettina (age range 25 - 50yrs) or Katarina (age range 20 - 35yrs) or Vladimir (age range 20 – 40) you need to sing a song of your own choice plus the dialogue for Bettina, plus up to 3 of the other country dialogue pieces that you feel you can do well.
To audition for one of the company roles (solo and acting) you need to sing a song of your own choice, plus up to 3 of the other country dialogue pieces that you feel you can do well.

Auditions will be held over Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 July 2022. Recalls will be held on Sunday 10 July, so make sure you keep the day free! Each audition will be approximately 15 minutes long.
